Sound Volume-7 lets you control your PC volume with hotkeys.

Windows-oriented keyboards and eventually all keyboards began including multimedia controls so that you could, for instance, increase music or application volume on the fly and without fiddling with Windows controls. If your keyboard lacks such options, then an alternative solution to have this feature is to control volume with hotkeys.

Sound Volume-7 by developer Style-7 is one such program that lets you do that. Sound Volume-7 is freeware, so you can download it, install it and use without cost or obligation. There is no ad support either or anything like that, so Style-7 gets a big thumbs up for that.

Sound Volume-7 is a program designed to run in the background, and it will minimize to the system tray. The best way to use it is to add it to your startup programs so that it runs automatically at Windows launch. When active, you can use the CTRL+SHIFT+PLUS hotkey to increase sound volume, the CTRL+SHIFT+MINUS hotkey to decrease volume and the CTRL+SHIFT+BACKSPACE or STAR hotkeys to toggle mute. If sound is muted, this hotkey will unmute, and vice versa.

Some users will find these three-key hotkeys to be a bit cumbersome particularly since modern keyboards let you increase and decrease volume with just a single button press. It would be nice if the program let users customize their hotkeys, but that addition does not seem likely at this point. Additionally, Sound Volume-7 does not play nicely with program like EarTrumpet, which many users to set volume levels on programs individually.

Note that support for Sound Volume-7 by Style-7 ended when Windows 7 became an end-of-life operating system. The developer never added support for Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and, most recently, Windows 10. Note that it is possible to get Sound Volume-7 working in these environments usually through compatibility mode. However, since there are other freeware options on the market that provide this functionality, it is hard to recommend this one used in compatibility mode.
